My entire life is nothing but the acquisition of pleasure
I’m the greatest sophist that I know
At least as far as I can measure
The horses pull my chariot in two opposing directions
As there’s a higher power, just starving for my affection

So let this be my palinode, To a God that I once loved
That’s not to say that I don’t know, That he’s still above
But I’m down here and overrun by my own desires
I hope and pray in feverish fits, That I won’t catch fire

I wish I could plead ignorance, and feign healthy bliss
But then I’d storm into that garden, and then you’d greet me with a kiss
Regarding my decadence I cannot take all the blame
Because then my heart would break, and it would end all the same

So let this be my palinode, To a god that once loved me
He called me out of my boat, And then he let me drown in the sea
And as I sink, my hands outstretched, Reaching for his crown
I’m so aware of my lack of faith, That has made me drown

There was a time when I followed all your ways
And now I wish I could live as such for all my days
But it’s my eyes, my lips, my heart, my tongue and my hands
That keep me from living according, to your commands

I wish I could live for you
I wish I could live for you
I can’t live for you
Make me live for you

So let this be m palinode, To a God that loves me still
Though I try and fail it all, He still climbed that hill
I’ll recite my kol nidre, And pray that he can hear
That all my promises are naught, But petty bones and fear
